Polarion ALM 17 – What’s New And Noteworthy

Once again I’m pleased to announce availability of a new major version release: Polarion ALM 17. The first thing our veteran customers will probably notice is the version number. We previously tagged our versions with the year of the release of the major version. The change is simply to make our version numbering consistent with the way other products in the Siemens PLM Software product line are numbered.

As you know, our major version releases roll up  new features and improvements already released to customers during previous Service Releases, and add a few new things. To learn more what we have released during previous Service Releases check these posts:

Let’s look now at what’s new and interesting for you in Polarion ALM 17.

What’s New and Noteworthy in Polarion 2016

I’m very pleased to announce the release of yet another new major version of Polarion… version 2016. It’s the first one since we became a Siemens company, and one thing I hope you will notice is… nothing has changed. Oh there are new features and enhancements of course. But our R&D still employs enterprise agile principles, enabling us to release frequently, faster, and with better customer satisfaction.

We will still have a “service release” (SR) each quarter that not only contains issue fixes and feature enhancements, but also includes complete new features if they are fully implemented, tested, and documented, and they do not significantly change the way people have been trained to use the last Polarion major version. All the new features released in the SRs roll up into our next major version, which when released, also includes new features and functionality.

So what I’ll show you in this post are the enhancements published since our last service release… all delivered just as we always have done, in the way you have come to rely on. (more…)

Introducing Polarion 2015: What’s New and Noteworthy

This is the last addition to our Polarion 2015 release cycle. As you might be aware, Polarion R&D follows the principles of enterprise agile methodology, which enables us to release frequently, faster, and with better customer satisfaction.

We have a “service release” (SR) each quarter, and as the name suggests, it contains issue fixes and feature enhancements. But service releases also include complete new features if they are fully implemented, tested, and documented, and they do not significantly change the way people have been trained to use the last Polarion major version.

All the new features released in the SRs roll up into our next major version, which when released, also includes new features and functionality. So what you will see here are the enhancements published since our last service release Polarion 2014 SR3.

If you want to get a quick overview about our brand new release, check out my release announcement post: Polarion 2015 Delivers Visual Reporting, Variant Management, Enhanced Security and More.

So now let’s go through the final additions to Polarion 2015…

A Klocwork Polarion: Ultra-danger to source code bugs

Polarion plus Klocwork graphic

We’re very excited to announce yet another new Polarion extension… one that is extremely dangerous (to bugs in source code, that is!)

Polarion is now integrated with Klocwork Insight, the Source Code Analysis solution from Emenda.

The new Klocwork-Polarion plugin allows Klocwork Issues to be imported as Polarion Defect type Work Items. The defects can then be tracked and traced in Polarion and used to link to related Requirement Work Items, or become the subject of a Test Case Work Items. Full details available on the plug-in home page.

The Emanda Klocwork Plugin is a free extension, available now via our POP Extensions site:

Polarion 2013 – New and Noteworthy

If you’ve seen my other post – “Polarion 2013 – Just Released” – you know we have just released version 2013 of the Polarion product line. That post summarizes the features we iteratively developed and released to our customers during the past year, but which are actually features of version 2013. (Yes, is a bit different from what you may be used to from other software companies… but it’s how we deliver new and enhanced functionality to our users on a regular, predictable basis.)

The purpose of this post is to highlight the new and noteworthy changes/features added to Polarion 2013 since Polarion 2012 SR3.  (A list of all the issues addressed in this release is provided in the Resolved Work Items file.) So let’s look now at the “latest-greatest” new things.
